Crimson Desert was one of the most hyped games heading into 2026 thanks to the sheer number of things players could do in its massive open world, at least judging by everything shown in the trailers leading up to launch. Although the game eventually launched to mixed reviews, a few patches here and there gradually won over the audience. Today, it sits at “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, a testament to Pearl Abyss’ continued post-launch support.
In fact, the game has sold over 6 million copies across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in just 83 days, according to Pearl Abyss, which is a pretty incredible achievement. Now, it looks like even more players could get to experience the action RPG.
During a recent shareholder briefing, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young confirmed that the studio is currently developing Crimson Desert for the Nintendo Switch 2.
That said, the company isn’t ready to announce a release date just yet. According to Jin-young, the game is already running on Nintendo’s new console at a level where basic gameplay is possible. However, Pearl Abyss says bringing Crimson Desert to another platform is much more than simply porting the game over.
The studio wants to ensure the Switch 2 version can preserve the same graphical quality, fast-paced combat, and open-world experience available on the existing versions. Before it can commit to a launch, the team still needs to complete optimization, technical testing, and other quality checks to make sure the game meets its standards.
Because of that, there’s currently no timeline for when—or even if—the Switch 2 version will be released.
Considering how technically demanding Crimson Desert is, Pearl Abyss’ cautious approach isn’t too surprising. Rather than rushing out a version that compromises the experience, the developer appears to be taking its time to determine whether the hardware can deliver the game the way it intends.
For now, all signs point to a Switch 2 version being in active development. Whether it eventually makes it to players’ hands will depend on whether Pearl Abyss can get the port to a level it’s satisfied with before making anything official.
