Mounts Are Finally Official
Arguably the most notable new feature of the Royal Highlands expansion is an all-new mounting system that allows players to traverse Palia‘s many regions on horseback. This has been a long-requested feature from the community, and Singularity 6 has finally delivered.
In even better news, while there is an exclusive event to introduce this new feature, the mount system is permanent, meaning it is here to stay within the game’s base experience.
Players can now move through the world with significantly more speed, managing a multi-gait system that includes walking, trotting, cantering, and full galloping. Navigation is deepened by a stamina mechanic, requiring riders to pace themselves or seek out golden Flow Sparks on the road to keep their speed up. Your first “Dawnspur” mount is unlocked via a free quest immediately upon entering the Highlands.
Beyond just riding, the ranching system has been expanded to include equine breeding. You can now rear horses that inherit both cosmetic coats and functional performance traits. For example, “Marathoner” breeds excel at stamina management but move a little slower, while “Wild” variants trade turning agility for raw speed.
Rarer breeds like the Akwindu Thoroughbred and the mythical Phoenixfire Dawnspur offer unique visuals and specialized resource drops like high-quality fertilizer or spicy foods. It also introduces “Amber Echo,” a new core resource and currency that has physically claimed parts of the environment, encasing everything from trees to creatures in orange crystals.
To encourage social interaction in this massive space, two active campsites rotate daily across the map. These serve as localized hubs where players can find daily rummage piles and engage in a new campfire cooking system, through recipes designed for efficiency, made with ingredients pulled directly from your home storage while standing at a communal fire, making it easier to maintain focus while exploring.
Elemental Hunting and the Enfield Legacy
The narrative continues directly from the Elderwood, introducing Eshelon, an expert on ancient human devices and heir to the Bahari Dukedom. Players work alongside him to investigate the strange energies in the region and eventually come face-to-face with the elusive Beast of the Elderwood.
This ties in nicely with new features, as the hunting side of Palia has received a significant mechanical upgrade with the introduction of masked creatures. Animals in the Highlands have evolved elemental shields — Pyro, Hydro, Terra, and Aero — that require specific tactics to break. If you hit a shield directly, you may find yourself briefly stunned, making it vital to aim for unshielded parts or use specialized “Dispel Arrows” to bypass the defenses.
