Gekko form Valorant

In a shock move that has the entire Valorant community excited, Riot Games’ patch 12.03, released on 17th February, 2026, features some major quality-of-life improvements to the initiator agent Gekko. These changes have been heavily requested by players since he was nerfed in patch 11.08

The update aims to satisfy player feedback on how weak Gekko has felt, especially compared to rivals like Fade and Sova, with fewer opportunities to utilize his unique Reclaim mechanic. The developer notes focus on unifying the rules for all of Gekko’s Globule-based abilities, offering more flexibility in reclaiming them, and delivering a “slight power buff overall.”

The Headline Changes for Gekko are Straightforward but Impactful

Globules Reclaim Timer: Increased by five seconds from 15 seconds to 20 seconds. This gives players more time to scoop up their spent abilities, reducing the pressure in fast-paced rounds and enabling riskier maneuvers.

Mosh Pit: Now fully reclaimable! Previously, this explosive molly-like ability left behind a non-reclaimable Globule after detonation, limiting its utility for repeated use. Players can now recapture it like Wingman, Dizzy, or Thrash, opening up new post-plant and area-denial strategies, especially on maps like Bind where multi-round utility is king.

These aren’t the biggest tweaks we’ve ever seen, but they are a clear response to Gekko’s plummeting pick rates; currently hovering around 0.1% in ranked, with a D-tier status and sub 45% win rate. Leading Esports sites like Dexerto and Esports.gg hail this tweak as a “slight power buff” that could nudge Gekko back into viability, especially for creative initiators who thrive in on reclaim loops.

Community Reception

As one would expect, the reactions to this buff are a mixed bag from online communities on sites like X and Reddit. There is definitely some positive feedback; however, there are also skeptics who believe this buff won’t make Gekko more favored over the likes of Fade or Sova.

As VCT 2026 heats up with Masters Santiago looming, these Gekko buffs could lead to more varied experimentation in skrims. Does this mean a resurgence for Gekko? From an early look at things, he’s getting some niche love, but don’t expect the meta to turn on its head.
Queue up, reclaim those Mosh Pits, and let the Globules fly! Patch 12.03 is live now!
