If you went to the Microsoft Store on your Xbox looking to pick up the newly released Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game today, July 23, 2026, and couldn’t find it, don’t worry. The store isn’t bugged, and you don’t need to restart your console. Unfortunately, the game has been delayed on Xbox just hours before its planned launch.
Developer Gameplay Group broke the news on X late Wednesday night, confirming that Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will no longer launch on Xbox alongside the PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch versions. According to the studio, the delay is due to “unforeseen circumstances” involving a backend feature. While it didn’t go into detail about the issue, the team confirmed that the Xbox version is now expected to launch on September 3.
Naturally, fans have begun speculating about what caused the delay. However, Gameplay Group hasn’t shared any technical details, making it impossible to know exactly what’s happening behind the scenes.
The Nintendo Switch version is still launching today, although it won’t be arriving with every feature available on other platforms. At launch, Switch players will only have access to the Standard Edition, with cross-play unavailable and language support limited to English. The developer says those missing features will be added at a later date.
Even so, the Xbox delay is undoubtedly the biggest disappointment, especially considering it was announced only hours before release. Players who had planned to jump into the game on day one will now have to wait more than a month before they can finally get their hands on it. What’s especially unfortunate is that early reviews suggest the wait might be worth it.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game currently holds an 82 on OpenCritic, making it not only one of the highest-rated fighting games of 2026 so far but also the highest-rated Avatar game to date. It’s worth noting, however, that those reviews are based on the PlayStation 5 and PC versions, as no Xbox reviews were published ahead of launch due to the last-minute delay.
For now, Xbox players will have to sit this one out while Gameplay Group works on resolving whatever backend issue forced the unexpected postponement. Hopefully, when September 3 arrives, the game launches with all of its promised features intact.
